LUCK …and a Cancer Patient
Happy Tuesday Night All.
In my house, we no longer look at the calendar, but the countdown clock till the final day of radiation is complete. That being said, we have 4 more days to go. God willing, we are gonna make it through. One of the head docs of Kaiser came up to us today and said, you all are doing great! That meant sososoososososo much to us! Our son is in this fight to beat it! Mark and I are so impressed with his courage, bravery and strength. How about you?
I just got off a long call with a girlfriend (which I don’t do enough of these days for obvious reasons) and I wanted to pass you on our little chitchat. She asked me how I was coping. I told her, “I just feel lucky, that’s all.”
“Lisa”, she said, “Um I don’t mean to be a negative nelly but your son and your family is fighting aggressive, stage 4 cancer. How do you feel lucky? That’s not the word I would use here.”
To which I said, in my most ‘un-Pollyanna’ish’ voice ever, ” I just do. Mark, me, Willis and Jackson, we are all lucky. My son is a fighter, we are staying positive, we have a great medical team, and bottom line, we are here, taking another breath and prepared to kick this brain cancer in the butt. ”
That’s all. I just had to share.
I don’t know why I am compelled to tell you this, but I am. If you see my in the grocery store or at the hospital or the drop off line at school (the only haunts I frequent these days) don’t have pity in your eyes for me. Don’t. We are one lucky family. Through all of this I have met so many wonderful, good mothers who are going through so much. They need your support. Pedriatic cancer is not only nasty, it is one lonely disease. Reach out and help someone this week!
I hope you feel lucky in your life too. If Jackson’s can remind you to smile, say FIGHT ON… throw a basketball, jump in a puddle, chew a piece of gum and blow a bubble entirely too big for your face, GREAT… we have success!!! Whatever’s going on in your world. We are here. It’s time to Fight On Friends!
Fight On Jackson!
